Manfred Naescher's publications are well executed from drawing images of screen shots from movies that fill his publications, to the exacting and beautiful layout and printing. Naescher doesn't make a lot of copies of each booklet so get this one while you can.

On the zine series Screenshots:
Screenshots is both an homage and an exploration of film in the form of an ongoing series of picture fanzines; a printed publication of recontextualized, reconfigured cinematic imagery, as interpreted through serial paintings. Each appropriated series of screenshots turns into a subjective take on cinematic memory, in a deliberate play with narrative forms and their inherent property of artifice. Source imagery from motion pictures is transformed into a fragmented series of reimagined still images in a zine—a complex, collaborative production is processed through the personal act of drawing, painting, and self-publishing.

Screenshots #2: Vargtimmen (2009)
For Vargtimmen, the images from the film were selected in chronological intervals of five minutes. Bergman’s concern with character and composition and Sven Nyqvist’s brilliant black and white cinematography turn almost every frame into a striking portrait, which made the initially arbitrary five-minute interval an oddly effective device for finding relevant images for the book. The drawings are executed in a variety of approaches; some of the images are drawn relatively faithfully, whereas others are reduced, distorted or emphasized in one way or another, to suit the form and rhythm of the book. Foregoing a straight retelling of the film’s narrative, this deliberately and necessarily fragmented succession of portraits creates a pictorial sequence distantly parallel to the film.
